Pets United

What is PetsUnited?

PetsUnited.org is an organization of pet lovers and pet website owners. The goal is to bring awareness to pet related issues and controversies, and provide suggestions and help for pet owners who want to care for their pets in the right way.  We are a community who believes all pets deserve the absolute best treatment and strive to spread that word throughout the pet world.

PetsUnited’s four primary areas of awareness are…

Pet Adoption

Why Pet Adoption? – Did you know that 6-8 million pets end up in animal shelters each and every year.  Of this huge amount of animals the Humane Society estimates that half, around 3-4 million animals, are euthanized per year.  That is in the USA alone.  These numbers are astronomically huge.  Due to the overwhelming number of animals in shelters many of these shelters are low on supplies and are faced with the decision of putting down many pets.

Although the problem is still huge, because of awareness it has gotten better over the last number of decades.  We have a long way to go, which is why PetsUnited was founded, but look at this encouraging report from the Humane Society.

In the 1970s, American shelters euthanized 12-20 million dogs and cats, at a time when there were 67 million pets in homes. Today, shelters euthanize around 4 million animals, while there are more than 135 million dogs and cats in homes.  This enormous decline in euthanasia numbers—from around 25 percent of American dogs and cats euthanized every year to about 3 percent—represents substantial progress. We will make still greater progress by working together to strike at the roots of animal overpopulation.

This doesn’t mean the problem is solved but it shows that what PetsUnited and so many other great pet organization are trying to do is working.

Adopting a pet instead of buying one is one of the steps you can take to make this problem shrink even more.  Adopt a pet today!

 Spaying or Neutering Your Pets

One of the solutions for the overpopulation of animal shelters and euthanizing so many pets across America is spaying or neutering your pets.  This is a solution that starts at the very beginning.  Limiting the number of unwanted pets is the first step to solve the problem.  Less unwanted pets means that less pets will have to be euthanized.

Many places will spay or neuter your pet for free. Be sure to get this done for your pets and to help protect pets in the future.

Pets Deserve High Quality and Healthy Pet Food.

Many pet foods out there are garbage.  They are packed with chemicals, poor quality meat and are not suitable for pets to be eating.  Feeding your pets high quality and healthy foods are important to their health and longevity of life.  This leads to the last awareness point.

Responsible Pet Ownership

If you follow the points above you are a responsible pet owner.

Pet awareness is practically applied in everyday life through responsible ownership.

Treat your pet right and you are apart of the solution.
